The BeWeave yarn and fibre subscription box provides a chance to explore various themes in more detail. This helps us break away from our favourites and “normal” yarns. If you were to view a fibre artist’s personal stash you would inevitably notice that most have a tone that they are drawn too, that they use regularly and has become their go too. By embracing a theme for our monthly BeWeave Box we can break away from those palettes we are most comfortable using and stretch our creativity with new colours and textures. With that said we could not possibly get through Autumn without taking advantage of the stunning colours that are available to use during this time.
Mother Nature sure knows a good thing when it comes to creating the most stunning seasonal colour palettes and Autumn is one of my favourites. Earthy tones in deep reds and browns with bold contrasting yellows and greens. I don’t know about you, but I just love driving down a street filled with deciduous trees as they start to turn colour. This moment in time is exactly where the inspiration has come from for the April BeWeave Box.
This month had us exploring new fibres plus some ones we have seen before but in a larger quantity. There are many staples a fibre artist needs in their stash and this includes wool tops and soft spongy classic wool yarn. These have featured as main events in our April BeWeave Yarn and Fibre box in two glorious shades that encompass falling Autumn leaves.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s in the box.
Rust - Fine Merino Wool Top
Always a staple the delicious rust Merino Wool Top is a strong colour that screams Autumn and just had to be included. Wool tops are not just great for weaving but they are also perfect for felting and spinning too, some of the other fibre art crafts that our BeWeave Box subscribers play with too.
Cinnamon – DHG Piuma Yarn
We have explored a little of the Pi for so long and the gorgeous shades of browns in the desert colourway were ideal for our Autumn theme.. You just have to look close at Khadi Ribbon to see why I admire it. A beautiful mix of colour with a textured gives this ribbon a unique look and feel. It is easy to use too, made from cotton and tussah silk, woven into a large piece of fabric that is then trimmed into individual ribbons and the ends sewn together to create one continuous ribbon. It is a favourite of mine for soumak and knotting. their high quality and attention to detaile. If you would like to know more about DHG and why we love them you can visit our blog on DHG here.
Desert – Khadi Ribbon
I have wanted to share Khadi ribbon for so long and the gorgous shades of browns in the desert colourway were ideal for our Autumn theme..You just have to look at Khadi Ribbon to see why I admire it. A beautiful mix of colour with a textured composition gives this ribbon a unique look and feel. It is easy to use too. Made from cotton and tussah silk which is woven into a large piece of fabric, this is then trimmed into individual ribbons and the ends sewn together to create one continuous ribbon. It is a favourite of mine for soumak and knotting.
This month’s BeWeave box featured an enclosed pouch of goodies which provided a taste in smaller amounts for some Luxe cotton string, cotton ribbon and Stromboli yarn.
Terracotta - Macrame String 5mm
I often use 5mm string in my weaves, it has a great look across all your weaving techniques and I love that it is easily combed out so you can create beautiful tassel and fringed details. The Terracotta colour was the ideal shade of red to bring the colour palette together.
Honey – Aari Ribbon
There was always room for that golden yellow you experience as the first leaves start to change colour and our Cotton Aari Ribbon provided the perfect shade in Honey. Aari ribbon is a fair trade and sustainable cotton ribbon, it is another example of a semi wide ribbon that is malleable. It creates a divine texture and has a softer look than the Khadi ribbon but with a textured feel under finger.
Bottle – Stromboli Ribbon
A touch of green was defiantly needed and Stromboli was a fun addition to include. Similar to a T shirt yarn the stretchy cotton ribbon is approx. 1cm wide and is easily woven in all your standard techniques. Stromboli is another DHG yarn and is often used in knitting and crochet too. I really wanted to include this yarn to balance and provide contrast to the other yarns and fibres
Boho Wooden Beads
For April, our non related product was the amazing Boho wooden beads.
Adding beads to your weaving is a fun and exciting way to add an embellishment to your piece. There are many ways that this can be done and I showcase one of these in my inspiration makes for the month and we will talk about this in more depth within A Makers Space Facebook Group Our Boho beads are our most popular bead at Vada Blue and the colours you find across the range are perfectly suited for our Autumn themed box. Each BeWeave recipient received 6 random beads and with 8 different styles it meant that there were many unique sets of beads heading out.
Overall I feel this is one of the favourite BeWeave boxes so far. The colour palette was a contrast to some of our earlier boxes and there is no denying that there is something special about deep, rich earthy tones.
Some of our BeWeavers’ had this to say about their April box.
