Under the Sea with BeWeave Yarn Subscription Box

June has almost been and gone but the beautiful creations from this months box are still coming and I am loving the sneak peaks.

Our June BeWeave Box took us on a journey 'Under the Sea'. It was a theme I had been holding onto for a little while now, and so with the release of the remake of one of my favourite Disney films, The Little Mermaid (which I am yet to go see) it seemed like the perfect time to release this box.

I adored putting this box together which was specially curated with a focus on fun textures and pretty colours. I absolutely love deep sea blues and greens and June certainly brought that, along with a touch of shimmer and sparkle too to capture the mermaid vibe of course.

June subscription Box
The June Under the Sea BeWeave Box

Junes BeWeave Yarn and Fibre subscription box included the following range of ribbons and yarns.

Luxe Cotton String – The 5mm cotton single twist bundle in sea green provides the perfect amount for a small macramé piece with approx. 35 meters. The string bundles are such a great way to explore a range of colours without having to buy a 1kg roll, this make them a popular choice for weavers also. I used my bundle to create a macra-weave wall hanging, bringing Macrame and weaving together in the one piece. The luxe cotton string is beautifully soft, Okeo Tek certified, combs out easily and the 5mm size is ideal for beginners. There is a range of colours to choose from in the shop if you want to try this beautiful single twist string.

Sparkle Silk Yarn – A divine lace weight yarn made from Mulberry silk and plied with a sparkle thread, creating a super soft and luxurious yarn in look and feel. The sparkle silk yarn offers approx. 600m per 100g. This yarn has many uses only limited to your imagination when it comes to weaving. Use as is or bundle lengths together for a more textured and bulky look. For those who knot or crochet, then this yarn is doubly as special as it is ideal for both of these fibre crafts. Needle size suggestion – 3.

Chunky Felt Yarn – This XXL felted rope yarn is so cool. It is not stiff as it may appear on first look, but is soft and easily workable. This chunky rope has great texture with its fuzzy felted appearance and the composition makes it great for macrame and weaving, Want to try something new, I could see this felted rope being used to crochet a basket too.

Velvet ribbon – Hand dyed and hand torn our silk velvet ribbon is forever a favourite of mine. Soft, luxurious and a stunning collection of bold colours, this velvet ribbon is my representation of a mermaid with a glistening, shining, colour changing tail. If you haven't tried our premium silk velvet ribbon for weaving, you are missing out. You can check out the range here.

Twist Yarn – This soft acrylic blue yarn has been tightly plied with a single thread which gives it a look that to me represented bubbles in the water.. I couldn’t resist adding a touch of this to each of our under sea themed boxes.

Mermaid Tag – Designed and laser cut through another local Adelaide business Sage and Pine, these wooden mermaid tags are the base for a cute mermaid tail design which featured as another of our inspiration projects this month. These macrame mermaids will make great gifts for the kids, i promise.. Be sure to check out our featured small business over on the socials @sageandpine.sa. I loved these mermaid tags so much I made sure I had extra so that I could add them to the shop, Vada Blue and Sage and Pine would love to see your mermaid creations.

Inspiration projects - this month we had 3 inspiration projects to copy or make your own. These included a full macra-weave wall hanging which incorporated the string bundle plus a little bit of everything else. This piece was finished off by attaching some coloured starfish using glue.

Project 2 was a simple mermaid crown. I created this using the XXL felted rope and the sparkle yarn which i threaded on leaving loops at the top to create the crown feature. The crown was made into a headband by attaching a hair tie to the ends.

Project 3 was the mermaid key chain where I used only the DHH and a gathering knot to create a very mermaid like tail.. I created 3 versions of this, the first using left over pieces from the macra-weave and the silk yarn, plus 2 others for my girls who picked some special hand painted strings and the sparkle silk yarn.

All three projects appeared in the box with basic instructions. These cards act as inspiration for you.. BeWeavers are welcome to copy them as they come or take parts of them to create their own unique piece.
