What's in the May BeWeave Box?

I had an idea before the BeWeave Box really came to fruition that I would love to include items from other local small businesses. Mother's Day in May presented the ideal opportunity for my first exclusive handmade item. Working with Leah from Beach Life Clay we came up with something really special for the May box that would be a symbol for the love of weaving that myself and the BeWeaver's share.

Inspiration for this months box came from flowers, especially the pretty pink bouquets of flowers that my kids get me each year on Mothers day. This BeWeave box was curated to be pretty and feminine but also bold with loads of texture and some serious luxury.

Lets visit what the May box held for our BeWeavers.

Velvet - Faded Rose

If you haven’t tried velvet within your weaves before, than you really must. So very lush our gorgeous silk velvet is hand dyed in small batches creating one of kind, unique pieces for your work. The large piece of dyed fabric is then measured and hand torn by yours truly to create one long ribbon of velvet. Velvet is ideal for weaving in knots, twining and soumak, anything with a twist to add a voluptuous bubble of texture. The Faded Rose colourway is also divine.

Linen Frizz - Pink Daisy

What can I say. An absolute must for texture I just love using this extra textured yarn in a simple tabby weave. Similar in design to the much loved cotton frizz ribbon, the linen frizz has a ribbon formation with fuzzy edges. Besides the fibre type, the main difference is actually the length of the pile, with the linen frizz super sizing on the cotton with a long shaggy detail.

The soft pink is also super sweet and pretty.

Silk Chiffon Ribbon - Pink Gerbra

Silk Chiffon is a very pretty material to use, similar in width to sari silk but softer and a little translucent, often with special embroidered detail. Our silk chiffon is an all-rounder in terms of how you use it - knit, crochet, weave etc. and it works well with all weaving techniques. The stunning bold pink reminded me immediately of the brightly coloured Gerbras the florist next to our school used to sell, I couldn't resit the throwback.

Luxe 10mm String - Dusty Rose

A classic for knots and lush tassels, 10mm premium luxe string is not only incredible for macrame, it also weaves beautifully and combs out effortlessly for a soft fringe detail. The dusty rose is an old time favourite colour and was perfect for this months box in colour and name.

Wide Sari Ribbon - Ivory

A classic colour and material, the wide sari silk ribbon in Ivory reminds me of beautiful wrapped bouquets and formal roses. It also looks amazing when woven and you can be adventurous with it. Use it as is, or tear easily down the center to create a thinner ribbon. Soumak and knotting are great ways to use this ribbon as it creates these wonderful, bouncy 3D pockets of greatness within your work.

Woven Studs – By Beach Life Clay

Leah from Beach Life Clay really came through when I asked her to create a special pair of ‘woven’ earrings for one of my boxes. I shared with her some woven inspiration and a colour palette which she took and worked her magic. I think she has captured my vision perfectly and created a special memento for each one of the BeWeave Subscribers. These studs are something they can keep forever and express their love for weaving and fibre arts on a daily basis.

Here is what some of our BeWeavers have had to say about our May BeWeave Yarn and Fibre subscription box.
